Hope Worship – October 29, 2023

On this Reformation weekend, we have the opportunity to rejoice in the gift of the pure Gospel once more: that our standing before God is wholly secure because of the work of Jesus for us, a work to be received with the empty hands of faith. In John 8, Jesus says that sin makes us slaves, and that a slave does not remain in the house forever – no permanent relationship, no inheritance. But He, the Son, comes to make us free. That is, we are brought from slavery to sonship. The freedom of children is not without purpose. Jesus sets us free from sin to know the love of God, to live according to His design as imitators and dearly loved children, and to rejoice in the inheritance that is ours. Today’s message is “Free,” based on John 8:31-36.

Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s…” In our American ears, Jesus’ words sound, perhaps, like a way of speaking of a separation between church and state. But the people of God are meant to recognize something deeper. Yes, in this life we have a responsibility to submit to the governing authorities. But what does it really mean to give “God what is God’s,” especially in light of who Jesus is? Where do our ultimate trust and allegiance belong? Today’s message is “God and Caesar,” based on Matthew 22:15-22.

Hope Worship – October 15, 2023

Jesus is the royal bridegroom of heaven, and with His coming, God the Father extends His invitation to the world to enter into the joy of the ultimate wedding feast, where all is richly provided and love reigns. And yet, the sad reality communicated in the Gospels is that many refuse the invitation, or they seek to come on their own terms rather than on God’s. By the Spirit’s work, may our response be different – joyful, humble, and grateful. Today’s message is “A Royal Invitation,” based on Matthew 22:1-14.

Hope Worship – October 8, 2023

Within the church, there are those who seem to settle for “good enough” when it comes to the living out of their faith. “As long as we get to heaven when it’s all done, that’s all that matters, right?” But the picture that the Bible paints of life in the body of Christ is much richer than “good enough.” Because He is our good Father, God desires that we grow as His children, and that we would grow in the use of the gifts He has given us. As we do so, the world gets an ever-clearer picture of the goodness of God, and we get a glimpse of the life that we have been made and redeemed for – the life that we will possess and enjoy forever as heirs of the new creation in Christ. Today’s message is “We Grow Our Gifts Together,” the final message in our five-part series called “Gifted for More.”

Hope Worship – October 1, 2023

When we think about the work that God would have us do, we may be tempted to think of that work primarily as a solo affair. But life is better together! Acts 18:1-8 gives us a small glimpse into the network of friends and coworkers in the Gospel that Paul enjoyed, and it encourages us to find ways to intentionally use our gifts together. Today’s message is “We Use Our Gifts Together,” the fourth message in our five-part series called “Gifted for More.”

Hope Worship – September 24, 2023

We as people were not made to live isolated from one another – God made us for community from the very beginning, when He created Adam and Eve to share life together. As God gives His people gifts, He gives them further reason to live in unity with one another – so that His blessings might flow through the sharing of those gifts. The early church in Acts 2:42-47 experienced the power and joy of this way of life, and God caused their witness to be attractive, bringing still others to faith in Jesus and life as members of His body, the church. Today’s message is “Everyone Is a Gift with Gifts to Share,” the third message in our five-part series called “Gifted for More.”
