What a gift it is that God has made us members of His family by grace because of Jesus! And what a joy it is when God’s children reflect the character of our heavenly Father and our Savior Brother, becoming effective and fruitful in the callings that God gives us. God has given us a gift in the Church! Followers of Jesus should expect to experience pain or awkwardness as they live as citizens of His Kingdom, a Kingdom often at odds with the age in which we find ourselves. How do marriages reflect the goodness of God’s Kingdom? St. Peter’s words may strike us as awkward in a 21st century context, but placed within the larger message of his letter, they show us how husbands and wives following the example of our risen King become signposts of God’s grace.
