“The Kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil… It is like a mustard seed…” In two short parables, Jesus teaches us that the growth of His reign in the world is mysterious and perhaps even unexpected. Just as a farmer or gardener is trained to trust that seeds planted in the soil will mature as full-grown plants, so we as the people of God are being trained by Jesus to trust that God will cause the news of Jesus’ reign to grow and spread in ways that we cannot see, explain, or coerce by manipulation. God will be glorified! We simply plant and water the seeds, trusting God for the growth.
