Hope Worship – October 24, 2021

On February 18, 1546, the day that Martin Luther died, his loved ones found a note in his pocket. The last words in that note were these: “We are beggars. This is true.” The only hope for beggars is the kindness of another. And when that kindness comes, a beggar won’t refuse it! In today’s Gospel reading from Mark 10, we witness the blind beggar Bartimaeus cry out for mercy to Jesus, the Son of David. When Jesus responds, Bartimaeus jumps – to be healed, and to follow after the Savior. In this week leading up to the celebration of Reformation Day, we learn from Bartimaeus what desperate, responsive faith in Jesus looks like.
